A QR code for Google reviews
A QR code at your counter or on a receipt makes it easy for customers to leave a review while they still remember the visit. All it needs is your official review link from Google. Here's where to find it, how to make the code, and the rules to follow so your reviews stay on your profile.
Get your official review link
Google gives every business a review link. On a computer, open your Business Profile, choose Read Reviews, then Get more reviews, and select Copy. Google can make a plain QR code there too, but only in a computer browser, not on a phone.
People need to be signed in to a Google Account to post a review.
Make the code
On our home page, choose Google review link and paste your link. If you paste the wrong kind of Google link, such as one that opens your profile instead of the review box, we tell you and ask for the one from Get more reviews. It's a fixed code: free, with no account.
If you want to change it later: choose Website link and paste your review link. To be able to change where it goes after printing, make it an editable code with a free account.
Then add your colors or a logo, check the size, and download it. Google's own code is fine if you just need a plain one. Ours adds your colors, a logo, sizes for print and print-ready files.
Where to put it
- At the counter or the register, where people pay.
- On receipts, takeout bags and table cards.
- In a thank-you email or on an invoice, as a link as well as a code.
Print the words with it, such as "Review us on Google", so people know what the code opens. Before you print many, scan one copy to check it opens the review box. Some map share links open your profile instead.
What Google and the FTC don't allow
These rules protect your profile. Breaking them can get reviews removed.
- Don't offer anything for a review. No discounts, free items or entries into a drawing. Google's policy bans "payment, discounts, free goods and/or services" for reviews.
- Ask everyone the same way. Don't ask only the customers you think are happy. Google says businesses may not "selectively solicit positive reviews". That rules out a code that asks "Happy with us?" first and sends only the "yes" answers to Google.
- In the US, the FTC also bans rewards for a review that says something positive or negative.
Yelp is different
Yelp asks businesses not to request reviews at all. So for Yelp, use a code that opens your Yelp page, with words like "Find us on Yelp". People can read about you there. On our home page, choose Yelp page. Keep it on its own sign or card, not next to "Review us on Google".
