One QR code, different links by device or language

Choose the page an editable Website link code opens using browser hints or a time of day.

How rules choose a link

On Business, an editable Website link code can choose a page using device information, browser language or time of day in the time zone set for a rule. Browser information can be missing or wrong; it does not verify someone's identity or location.

Every condition in a rule must match. We check rules from top to bottom and use the first match; otherwise the code's main link opens. You can add up to 12 rules and move them up or down to change which one is checked first. A language such as en also matches en-GB and en-US, and we use the language the browser prefers most. If your plan or the feature switch no longer allows rules, we keep the settings but use the main link instead. Saved password and date restrictions still apply.

How to use one QR code with different links.

Add and save rules

  1. Open a Website link code from your dashboard.
  2. Find Rules for links and choose Add a rule.
  3. Pick at least one condition: a device, a browser language, or a time of day.
  4. Enter the link to open for that rule, then choose Save rules.
  5. Use Move up and Move down to put the most specific rule first, then choose Save rules again. The main link opens if none matches.

Add, move and remove change the list on the page. They do not change what people see until you choose Save rules. To remove a saved list, choose Remove all rules and confirm. Keep rules is the first choice.

Examples

  • Send phones to an app page: in Rule 1 choose Device Mobile and enter the app link. Set the main link to the website for everyone else.
  • Show a Spanish page: in Rule 1 enter Browser language es and the Spanish link. People whose browser prefers es-MX or es-ES match too. This is a browser preference, not a location.
  • Lunch and dinner menus: in Rule 1 choose From 11 a.m. Until 3 p.m. in the time zone you pick, with the lunch-menu link. Set the main link to the dinner menu.

Time and order

Set both times, or neither. A range can cross midnight, like 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Each time rule has its own time zone, wherever someone scans the code. An hour that repeats when clocks change can match both times.

Put specific rules before general ones. If you fill in device, language and time in one rule, every filled condition must match. The browser's most-preferred language is the one used. Changing the rule order changes which match wins.

What rules do not do

Rules do not identify a person or country, and there is no operating-system choice. They do not change the printed pattern. They apply to editable Website link codes, not fixed codes or other editable kinds.

Start and end dates restrict when the whole code opens. Rules choose a link when the code is allowed to open.

A code password is checked before rules choose the destination. Saved password and date restrictions still apply if rules become unavailable.
