Round QR code: shapes, borders and print checks
Round adds a circular background around the complete square code and its plain border. It does not cut off the corners. Shape is separate from dot style: the code's square grid stays intact.
Round is available in the free fixed maker. Appearance settings on editable codes follow your plan.
Keep the complete border and use the preview and print checker. Round uses more space around the same code, so at the same overall print width its small squares are smaller. You may need a wider print. Test a printed copy at its final size before making more copies.
Shape and dot style do different jobs
Choose Shape before Dot style in the maker. Square is the default. Round adds space outside the complete square artwork, including its quiet zone and any frame. It does not crop the square grid into a circle. Dot style changes the small shapes within that grid.
Check the whole print width
The width you choose covers the entire image, including the circular background and any frame. With more space outside the code, its small squares are smaller at the same overall width. Use the print checker to choose a wide enough image for the code and the scan distance.
Compare before printing
Compare the same code in Square and Round before ordering prints. Keep the destination, colors and other settings the same so you can see how much space the outer shape adds. Read the checker again after changing the width, logo or frame. Download a fresh image after changing appearance; an image already placed in a document or printed on paper keeps its old appearance. Changing shape does not change the link or the information stored in the code.
Keep the full border
- Choose Round and check the preview, colors, logo and frame.
- Set the final print width and read any print warnings.
- Download the image without cropping, stretching or removing its plain border.
- Print one copy and scan it from the intended distance with the devices people will use.
A circular background does not guarantee that every scanner will read the code. For difficult prints, try Square, a simpler appearance or a wider image.
