Make a QR code for a payment link

Use a QR code to share a payment link you already have. Payment takes place with the provider behind that link. ovbq makes the code; it does not handle the money.

Copy the full HTTPS payment link supplied by your provider. Use the link intended for the people who will pay, rather than an account-settings or sign-in page.

Check that the link opens the intended payment destination before putting it into a code. A recipient name you type into ovbq is not verification of the account behind the link. Check the recipient shown by the provider itself.

Make the payment-link code

  1. Choose Payment link. Paste the full https:// payment link. Check pricing for availability.
  2. Choose what a scan opens. Under When someone scans, choose Show a check page first (recommended) or Go straight to the payment page. The check page shows your recipient label, provider and destination before people continue. Going straight is available only for PayPal, Venmo, Cash App and Stripe links; links to other sites always show the check page. Saved access restrictions apply to both choices.
  3. Check the website address. Check the website name in the link and make sure it is the provider's real website. A familiar name elsewhere in the link does not show who runs that website.
  4. Scan a test copy. Check where the link leads and the recipient information at the payment provider before sharing the printed code.

What the code does

The code gives people a way to reach your payment link. It does not verify the recipient, check that a payment went through or issue a receipt for a payment. The payment provider handles the transaction under its own terms.

A scan count is not a payment count. Someone may open the link without paying, or open it more than once. Use the provider's own records to check payments.

Check the words saved with the code

Use a private code name you can recognize in your account. If the editor asks for a recipient label or a short purpose, check those words against the provider's page. Text entered by a code owner does not verify who receives the money. Do not put card numbers, bank details or sign-in information into those fields. The complete saved link may already contain a recipient, amount or note; check it carefully before making the code.

Optional purpose text is saved and shown only on the check page. Saving a direct link removes it.

When the link changes

While your plan allows editing, update an editable code's payment link without replacing the printed pattern. Then scan the code again and check its new destination. Saved access restrictions still apply.

Check the payment provider's fees and any amount shown on its page before sharing your sign.
