What a GS1 Digital Link QR code holds
A GS1 Digital Link address carries a product identifier in a web address. A QR code can hold that address so a scan can connect the product to online information. A QR code that opens a product webpage is not, by that fact alone, a GS1 Digital Link barcode. GS1 URI syntax standard (checked October 25, 2026).
Start with the product's identifier
Use the product identifier assigned for the item and make sure you are authorized to use it. If you need a GS1 identifier, start with your GS1 organization. ovbq does not issue GTINs or establish ownership of a product number by making its QR code. GS1 US identifier FAQ (checked October 25, 2026).
Check what the printed code contains
Decode the downloaded QR code and check its address and identifier. An ordinary short link that redirects to a GS1 Digital Link address does not put that identifier structure into the printed symbol. Use the product barcode option
Start with the full HTTPS product address. The product option supports an uncompressed GS1 Digital Link address with a 14-digit GTIN and the supported product-variant, batch/lot or serial qualifiers. It does not accept every form of GS1 data. Paste the address, check the displayed GTIN and encoded address, then download and decode a sample. The printed code holds that address directly; it is not an editable ovbq short link.
A product address and a resolver are separate things
A service can open a product page without providing the additional behavior specified for a GS1 resolver. Check what the service actually offers. GS1 URI syntax standard (checked October 25, 2026).
Test with the people who use it
Opening the destination with a camera is one check. Retail scanning and barcode placement need their own checks with your retailer and packaging printer. GS1 says not all retail systems can process these 2D barcodes and its current guidance retains a 1D barcode during the transition.
