Put event details in the code itself. A supported scanner offers to add them to a calendar. Printed details cannot be changed.

The name people see for the event. Use 160 characters or fewer.
What people should know before they come. Use 2000 characters or fewer.

Use dates without a start or end time.

In the event's time zone.
For an all-day event, the final day is included.

Anyone who has this code can read the event details, including any address you add. Test this code with the scanner and calendar app your guests use before printing.

For example example.com/menu. We add https:// for you.
Enter the network name exactly, including capitals and spaces. Use 32 bytes or fewer. Some letters and emoji use more than one byte.
SecurityWPA3 networks: choose WPA.

iPhones may not join a hidden network from a code. Android phones can.

Up to 1,000 characters, fewer for emoji or Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Thai text. Short text makes a code that is easier to scan.
Add + and the country code if callers may be abroad.
Enter it as
Name and street, for example Main Street Bakery, 12 Main St.
Latitude first, then longitude, for example 26.2712, -80.2706.

People need to be signed in to a Google Account to post a review.

Google's rules: ask every customer the same way, and offer nothing in return.

Open your business on Yelp and copy the page's address.

Yelp asks businesses not to request reviews (opens in a new tab), so this opens your Yelp page, where people can read about you.

Start with the country code, like +1 954 555 0100. Spaces and dashes are fine.Anyone who scans this code can see this number and message. Use a number you're happy to share. A printed code can't be changed.
Up to 300 characters. It's ready to send when someone scans, and they press send.

Scan it with your own phone to check the chat opens. People without WhatsApp see a page from WhatsApp.

Shape

Round adds a circular background around the complete square code and its plain border. It does not cut off the corners.

Dot styleThe three corner squares stay square so scanners can find the code.
Two-color gradient

Starts at the code color. Both colors must contrast with the background by at least 4.5 to 1.

Frame and message
Use 30 characters or fewer. Use A to Z, numbers, basic punctuation and supported accents. Use straight quotes (" and '), not curly quotes. Letters such as ł are not supported.

The plain border stays inside the frame. Print width includes the whole frame.

Add a logo (optional)
LogoAn icon or your own file sits in the middle on a plain square, in the code's color for an icon, and the code uses at least High strength (Highest for a large logo on a small code) so it still scans.
PNG or JPEG, 1 MB or smaller, up to 4 million pixels (about 2000 by 2000) and up to 4,000 pixels on a side. It is used when "Your own file" is picked above.
Logo size
Strength
Strength

Higher strength survives scratches and logos but makes the dots smaller at the same size. Medium suits most uses. The percent is how much of the code can be damaged and still scan. Pick High for stickers and outdoor signs.

Check it before you print

How far away will people scan it?
The whole image, border included. Leave it empty if you are not sure yet.

Ready to print on Letter.

  • Contrast: GoodDark on light, easy to read (contrast 21 to 1).
  • Border: GoodIncluded. Keep the white border when you place it.
  • Size: TipUsing 2.4 in (about 6.1 cm) wide for PDF, EPS and print sheets, the smallest safe size for 1.5 ft.
  • ScannabilityGood. Contrast 21 to 1. Each dot is 1.84 mm. No logo covers the code. Density: 25 dots per side. Square dots and the three corner squares keep clear edges. Good means fewer print risks; Fair means some; Risky means several or a serious problem. Test a printed copy with several phones.
Before you print many
  • Print one copy at the final size.
  • Scan it with an iPhone and an Android phone, one of them older.
  • Scan it from the real distance, in shade and in sun.
  • Check that it opens the right page.

Download

PNG keeps the edges sharp. Use JPG if your editor needs it. JPG uses a solid background. It cannot be transparent.

Use the width and scan distance above. We arrange the copies with gaps and crop marks. A small ovbq.com line prints at the bottom. Print the PDF at actual size (100%), with page scaling off.

Letter is 8.5 by 11 inches. A4 is 210 by 297 mm.
1 to 100, as many as fit; the line below says how many fit at your size. At this size, up to 6 copies fit on Letter.
The caption is the code type, such as Website link or Wi-Fi. Long captions are shortened with "..." to fit at a readable size.

Fixed codes never expire. They hold your content directly, so they keep working even without us.

This code is fixed. To change the link after printing, make it editable.

Only the link and its strength carry over. Editable codes are black on white with no logo on Free. On Pro and Business you add your colors and logo on the code's page, so download this one first if you want to keep its look.

This fixed code can't be changed after printing. To make an editable website code, choose Website link first. That makes a new code to print; it can't change one that's already printed.

If you stop paying, printed codes still work

While ovbq runs, your printed codes never go to a dead page, an ad or our sales page. The few exceptions, such as abuse, fraud, a chargeback or a code you delete, are in Terms section 13. If ovbq ever shuts down, we'll tell you 90 days ahead.

What happens if you stop paying

  1. Day 0Your paid plan ends, because you canceled or a payment kept failing. Everything keeps working, and we email you.
  2. Day 7, 25Two reminders, each with the list of codes that will pause.
  3. Day 30Your 2 oldest website-link codes stay on Free, live or paused as you left them. The others show a short notice; any continue action follows the code's access restrictions.
  4. Any dayPay again: codes come back at once, oldest first, up to your plan limit.

How changing the link works

An editable code points at a short ovbq link. You decide where that short link goes, and you can change it whenever you like.

  1. Make an editable code for the page you have today, for example your fall menu.
  2. Print it on table tents, flyers, signs or packaging.
  3. When the page changes, sign in, paste the new link and save. The next scan of every printed copy opens the new page.

Questions

Do my codes expire?

No. A fixed code holds your content, so it lasts as long as the print does, and an editable code has no forced end date. Any saved dates or password still apply. How to be sure a code never expires

What happens if I stop paying?

Nothing changes for 30 days. Then your 2 oldest website-link codes stay on Free, live or paused as you left them. Other codes show a notice; Continue still checks any saved dates or password. Your plan ending does not delete the codes. What happens if you stop paying

Can I use my own domain?

Not yet: editable codes use ovbq.com short links. On every plan you can export your links.

What do you track?

Nothing for fixed codes. For an editable code, we count each scan with its time, rough device, system, browser and referring website, and on Pro and Business its country. We never record a city or GPS position. The redirect sets no cookies. Paused and refused requests are not recorded. What QR code tracking shows

We do not store raw IP addresses in our scan database. Recorded scans contain a daily one-way hash of the network address to count how many different network addresses scanned each day. The hash stays with its scan record for up to 24 months; the daily random value used to make it is deleted within about 3 days. Our host keeps separate server access logs; see our Privacy Policy.

More questions

What is the difference between a fixed code and an editable code?

A fixed code holds your content directly. Once printed it can never change, and you need no account to make one. An editable code holds a short ovbq link. You choose where that link goes and can change it after printing. Editable codes need a free account and also count their scans. An editable code can open a web page on any plan, and on Pro and Business also a call, a text, an email, or a page or file we host for you. See what an editable code can open.

Do I need an account to make a fixed code?

No. Fill out the form on the home page and download the file. We do not save what you type into the free maker. The one exception is "Make it editable", which keeps only the link and its strength until you sign in.

I'm signed in. Can I still make a free fixed code?

Yes. Choose "Make a free code" at the top of any page. Fixed codes are free on every plan. They aren't saved in your account, because they hold your content inside the code itself, so download the file before you leave the page.

I have a PDF menu and no website. What can I do?

On Pro and Business, upload it to ovbq. Make an editable code, choose PDF or image, and choose your file: a PDF, JPEG or PNG up to 10 MB. The code opens it, and you can replace the file later without reprinting. For a menu that reads well on a phone, you can also build a menu page with sections, hours and prices. See how to make a QR code menu.

On the Free plan, a free file-sharing service can host the PDF. Upload it to Google Drive, Dropbox or Microsoft OneDrive, set it so anyone with the link can view it, and copy that share link. Then make an editable code that points to it. When the menu changes, upload the new file and point the code at its new link: the printed code stays the same. Step by step.

Which file should I give my print shop?

The SVG or the PDF. Both are vector files, so they stay sharp at any size, and the PDF uses the print width you chose. If the shop asks for EPS, you can download that too. For many copies on one page, use the print sheet. Use the PNG for documents, websites and social posts.

Can I get a PDF of my QR code?

Yes. Next to the print checker, choose PDF. It's a vector file, so it stays sharp at any size. It uses the print width you enter in the checker, or the smallest safe size for your scan distance if you leave it empty. We refuse a size too small to scan. There's an EPS too, for older design and print software.

How do I print many QR codes on one page?

Open "Print several copies on one page" under the downloads, pick the paper and copies, and print the PDF at actual size. How to print many QR codes on one sheet, or make printable table tents, counter cards and stickers.

How big should I print it?

It depends on how far away people will stand, and on how much is in your code. The code itself, without its border, should be at least one tenth of the scan distance and never under 2 cm (about 0.8 in). Each of its dots should be at least 0.7 mm wide. The checker beside the preview works this out for you, and it won't make a file that's too small to scan.

Can I add a logo?

Yes. On fixed codes from the home page it is free: pick one of our 16 icons or add your own file. On editable codes it comes with Pro and Business. The logo sits in the middle on a plain square and covers at most a quarter of the width, or a fifth on a dense code. The code then uses a higher strength (High, or Highest for a large logo on a small code) so phones can still read it. Always test a printed copy first.

Why does the checker say "Check", "Risky" or "Won't scan"?

"Check" means the code will probably scan, but something could cause trouble, such as light dots on a dark background or a size that is small for the distance. "Risky" on the Size line means the code holds a lot, so at this width its dots are under 0.9 mm. We show the size to print it at, and you can still download it. The Scannability line also rates every code Good, Fair or Risky, with its reasons. "Won't scan" means many phones would fail to read it, so we ask you to fix it before you download.

An ovbq code sent me somewhere harmful. What do I do?
